distribute at a school security event. Useful websites to register bicycles, help ID if they are stolen, cycling clubs
and travel were provided.
False Telephone Switch Scam
An Eastry resident received a (legitimate) email from Utility Warehouse (UW) saying that he had requested a switch
to a different telephone provider. He contacted UW who stopped the switch, which he had not requested and his
bank details will not be transferred to a scammer. If the switch was unchallenged the scammer could have used
his direct debit mandate.
Parking Fine Scam
There have been several reports of a texted Scam parking fine ‘penalty charge’. There is a link to a realistic
looking website controlled by criminals who want to obtain personal and financial data.
Report Scam text messages by forwarding to 7726.
Which? Magazine warnings

on their website and printed magazine.
New Nursery
The new nursery in the Gun Park will open in January
Criminal Guttering and Roof Repairs
A criminal gang working in the area has been targeting elderly and disable people in a variety of ways. In some
cases an individual looks for such people on the street or in their garden and chats to them in a friendly way
eventually getting around to mentioning repair work they might need to their house and that they know someone
who helped them and would recommend. They may also claim to have worked for the person before. The people
recommended charge extremely high rates and do a poor job. They took payment by cheque up front and cashed it
very quickly before the cheque could be stopped. The work was often to do with the roof or guttering but in one
case was to get rid of a rat infestation for which they charged a wacking £8000 or so. The gang went under several
names including ‘Top Tier Construction’. Arrests have been made but folk should be aware of people using tactics
like this to rob them of their savings.

Council and £30 paid to the Young Peoples Club.
